Étienne Le Rallic e i suoi fantastici anni '20

Étienne Marie Lucien Le Rallic (1891-1968), è uno dei più importanti illustratori della sua generazione e uno dei padri delle band dessinée dell'area francofona. Gran parte dei suoi lavori ci raccontano il clima degli anni '20, il bisogno di evasione, la ricerca del piacere, dopo i disastri materiali e morali della guerra.
Nel corso della sua vita, Le Rallic ha illustrato numerosi periodici per giovani e collaborato con le maggiori case editrici dell'epoca in Francia: Fayard, Offenstadt, Fleurus, Montsouris… e in Belgio con Gordinne.

La sua biografica racconta che, ancora minorenne, e con l'approvazione del padre, nel 1901 parte per Parigi. Sul treno che lo porta nella capitale il ragazzo incontra il direttore della rivista "Fantasio" e gli mostra alcuni suoi lavori e viene assunto per la famosa rivista satirica "Le Rire" ("La risata").
Etienne Le Rallic pubblica molto anche su altri giornali satirici ma firma spesso i suoi disegni con gli pseudonimi di Levesque, Smile o anche Francis.

La tavole di Le Rallic presentate in questo sito provengono da "Le Sourire" (1920-1929) e sono state restaurate dallo staff di Titus Ars per restituire la raffinatezza delle linee.
Sono bande dessinée, ma le scene non ancora inquadrate come storyboard (avverrà solo nei decenni successivi), e i testi sono scritti a mano tra i disegni, non sui personaggi.

Étienne Marie Lucien Le Rallic (1891-1968), is one of the most important illustrators of his generation

and one of the fathers of the band dessinée of the French-speaking area. Most of his works tell us about the climate of the 1920s, the need for escape, the search for pleasure, after the material and moral disasters of the war. During his life, Le Rallic illustrated numerous periodicals for young people and collaborated with the major publishing houses of the time in France: Fayard, Offenstadt, Fleurus, Montsouris... and in Belgium with Gordinne.

His biographical story tells that, still a minor, and with his father's approval, he left for Paris in 1901. On the train that takes him to the capital the boy meets the director of the magazine "Fantasio" and shows him some of his works and is hired for the famous satirical magazine "Le Rire" ("Laughter").Etienne Le Rallic also publishes a lot in other satirical newspapers but often signs his drawings with the pseudonyms of Levesque, Smile or even Francis.

The Le Rallic plates presented on this site come from "Le Sourire" (1920-1929) and have been restored by the Titus Ars staff to restore the lines so refined. They are bande dessinée, but the scenes are not yet framed as storyboards (this will only happen in the following decades), and the text is handwritten between the drawings, not on the characters.
